    Hi,
    1. I filed for my I-485 in July 2007 with the old fee. This included AP & EAD
    2. AP and EAD were renewed in 2008 Sept, with new fee for both of these
    3. AP is up for renewal, so is it free for me,or do I need to pay $305 again?

    My question arises, since I assumed that the "free renewal" is for anyone who pays the new fee "once" for the EAD/AP.

    Anyone who knows about this thing?

    Maybe one can get a birth certificate from Consulate General of India here in the US ?

    More letters = More strength for IV !

    But of course....I should have been more specific with my question. I see that we are not even 20% near the target so the question is .... does IV still go with the campaigne? or do they increase deadline and try to get more letters?

    Oh, one more..if you are trying to print the letters and send in regular mail. The existing IV template is not printing name and address on the letter. Please include your real name and address as well.

    That is true!
    As for fee increases big companies do not really get hurt, if they need someone and it costs 5K, in their grand scheme of things its not a big number.
    Also I am not sure why people assume Big tech Companies want only H1Bs, thats not true, I have had interactions with various levels where they hate having to go through all these attorneys every H1B renewal and ambiguity about their employees traveling. Ideally they would like to get their employees a GC right after they go through PERM. My group had to withdraw 2 offers for Master's students because they won't be able to get H1b till Oct'2008, and we were not looking for just H1B/F-1 employees, but any fresh Grads.

    As for GC numbers, H1B cap of 65K was somewhat of a sweet spot for 140K available. Considering not 100% of H1B's apply, but there are other non H1B EB GC applications. So if we club all these and still keep the number to approx 65K and add dependent factor, this 65K*2.X translates close to 140K. Now increase these to 115K and keep the numbers at 140K and no spill overs from ROW for the Point System. Viola!! We have log jam worse than LA freeways, only now some of the cars will never get to their destination.

    With lot of consulting people applying for EAD's and getting GCs, they will not be willing to part their hard earned $s. Not implementing H1 restrictions will give a chance to get fresh meat for these blood sucking so called consulting companies, only this time it could be bonded slaves with GCs not in sight.

    Ideally we would like to have all these consultant needing companies start hiring permanent employees and put most of the ill intentioned body shoppers out of business. But with this bill these BS(Body shop) Co will find some loop hole(and trust me, Find it they will) and get lifetime slaves through H1B and suck half their earnings rest of the poor souls life. We are scared of the wrong thing, H1B restrictions, instead of worrying about how trapped and helpless thousands of people will be in clutches of these companies. I would rather these people enjoy the freedom and prosperity of India and China, than living uncertain life here and feeding the Leaches of the system.

    And everyone is wondering why they are not fighting these H1 restrictions. They wont, this bill is great for them. Its not their 5K for H1, and it comes with hand-cuffs and shackles.

    There, I poured my passions out about this issue. Phew :rolleyes:



    You will be surprised that even with the restrictions H1b cap will be reached but not in one day or one month but within an year as demand will be there. These restrictions will impact only Indian bodyshoppers who are running just by H1b. Though H1b will be costly if CIR in the same form is passed but Most of good companies will overcome. So if you want to relative number of gc then you need to increase Gc by atleast 50 to 100% from current level.

    Hi,

    How can one know if ones employer has withdrawn/cancelled ones H1B visa? Apart from asking the employer, if one uses the EAC # ans checks the status on www.uscis.gov, will it be reflected over there?

    Q: Can an employer cancel H-1B visa without employee�s knowledge/consent?
    A: Yes and remember it is illegal to travel on a cancelled visa.

    Q: If an employer can cancel my visa without my knowledge, how do I know that my visa is still valid?
    A: Unfortunately, the only reliable source for that information is INS and your employer. There is really no other way to find out. You could try INS although they may not help you as you are an employee.

    The answer is we all will have to bell the cat...and it will take more than a few attempts to do that.

    IMHO, we should focus on what we can do rather than focusing on what some people could have done or what some one did to dampen the last attempt.

    People will always find time for what is important to them; all we can do is try to make it more convenient and keep giving then enough opportunities.

    We should have some sales/marketing people on this forum; they could have told us about how long it takes to convert a prospect to a customer.

    Have faith my friend...

    How about taking this to the next step and hire paid fulltime staff who can
    1) call people and request donations
    2) organize meetings
    3) stimulate the local chapters
    4) promote IV
    ..... and the list can go on.....and do all the things necessary to convert all propects to customers.

    How about having full time offices in DC? This office will run on donations.

    Finally, how about instead of anonymous members make this a place where everyone has to provide their personal details etc.

    Anyways, I am just ranting.

    These words have stopped some people from attending the rally, maybe you should not use them more than million times.

    I say it, others just do not say it. I have openly criticized Murthy and even Khanna in my old posts - but now I have my highest respect from them, Murthy cheered the crowd like anything and priased all the grassroots efforts.

    If people cannot get motivated - it is their EGO and SELF PRIDE that stops them.

    Once again - everyone feels it - I say it. I once openly critized immigration lawyers for their ways of handing things which is very obvious on Rajiv Khanna's forums, some people tried to attack me saying that I am not giving the right message but the other members said "We have it in our minds and you have openly expressed it"

    I , in fact did not want this thread because it opens up to all the cry babies saying MOMA LOST MY HANDKERCHIEF AND THATS WHY I DID NOT ATTEND , MY MANAGER BIT ME ON MY HAND AND IT IS PAINING etc.....

    But tamsen and others are curious to know the reasons. Once again, IV is open to you all, IV is you and you are IV - so if you find reasons to attack IV or disrespect IV it basically means you are noe helping yourself.

    Think and decide - I am ready to take your shots, you can blame me for what I say - but remember - thats what everyone feels about u all - they don't say it and I say it.

    My understanding was that once the i-140 is approved then one can change employers. Some kind of portability??!! I dont think u need to start a new once the i-140 is appoved but you can find an employer with SIMILAR job position.

    Well in my case the i-140 is still pending.... and i dont have my employer anymore.

    Where did you get that idea? You can only change employer if you filed both I-140 and I-485. And I-485 should be pending for more than 6 months.

    And what do you mean you don't have your employer? You were laid-off? or did you resign?
