IMO we should first try to form a local chapter. If that doesn't work try to combine forces with nearby states like IN, OH, IL etc. to form "Mid West" Chapter ( like New England and Tri-Sate Chapters).
Co-ordination with IL chapter will be critical for us (and others too) in the coming days as Mr. "anti-legal immigration" Durbin is the senator there. We need to start acting - NOW - to convince him to drop anti-immigrant measures such as "barring H1Bs from consulting business"; instead of waiting on him to introduce his "Prevention of H1 & L1 Fraud Act" (and discuss it on IV ad nauseam without making the slightest impact)
Someone suggested even joining the illinois chapter - maybe thats the way to if there aren't many here

I dont agree with you..Larrabee is a top firm who handled our case very well..its ur company to blame if they have not filed perm for you.
Sorry, I don't agree with you and also my mistake that I am linking my perm labor filing with Larrabee. I agree my perm labor is delayed because of my company.
But I have seen Larrabee handling my h1B transfer case where they screw up by missing some document. Atleast by my experience I wound not suggest my company and Larrabee as well for any immigration stuff

What is your point? I posted what I am convinced off. Why are you asking that back to me? :)

Needless to say, I'm Coming.
I will also get a copy of 'IV Talking Points' given as part of DC Rally, some docs to get started on some immediate action items, and get us started on activities.
I also volunteer to take 'Minutes of the Meeting'.

Yes, I agree...we need some sort of intelligent Non -Cooperation Movement...
But I am afraid when we cannot stand united on this group- with only 200-400 or so of the 9000 contributing, I am not even sure what kind of Non Cooperation will work here.
We need to get United,,, that is the need of the hour..
Its actually the strategy that is wrong. The numbersusa
, zazzona etc is also a very small group but they use
right strategy.
At one hand you support H1b increase and also want greencard reform.
Those are contradictory things. Unless IV starts working against further
H1B incease , then only Corp America will start working on EB reform.
actually thats the reason I like unitednations. Whats he says is very true
(yes not very pleasant)

Someone asked earlier, who changed their mind after reading Jaime. I did after one of his earlier posts.
I was decided on not going, but then as I spent more time on this forum, I realized it is definitely the right thing to do. If not us speaking up then who? Simply answer that. How do lawmakers even know that we exist, that an injustice is happening to us, that we feel frustrated about our situation. They keep getting lopsided anti immigrant venom from some well organized and well funded groups and keep hearing about illegal immigration. Our pain however has resonance with them. We played by the rules, we came and lived legally at the invitation of our AMERICAN employers and the US gov't certified that there is no one to take the jobs we are doing, we paid taxes, we have integrated into society and we are asking, why are we being made to wait this long?
What's to feel bad or shy about in that?
I'll tell you something, those who are skeptical simply do not understand how this country works. It is a representative democracy and people pressure and protests and lobbying DO WORK. Otherwise lobbying would not be the biggest growth industry of the day. There is no other way to inspire change, and it has been, can and will be done. I have seen it time and over again.
The final point I wish to make is, those coming to this rally have pre-selected traits. They are the pre-selected ones who are programmed to be successful in this country. They understand it and are proactive and entrepreneural and willing to spend, take risks, take a leadership, are responsible and will do the right thing. These traits have been and will continue to be rewarded in the long run in this country. I wish we can project that our community has many of these people.
Those meek, follow the leader, risk averse, miserly, behind the back types, may have their little breadcrumbs but will never have the attributes to achieve anything of note in the USA anyway. They will continue to find lame excuses for their lack of progress.
Every reader needs to decide for himself which type he/she is.
Alterego, what great news! You WILL NOT REGRET coming! I totally agree with everything you say! At least we know that we will have stood up for our rights and we will be proud to tell our children that we did so!
Besides, you are absolutely right. This country takes notice when people speak up! The problem is that that's not the case in our birth countries, and thus we are not hard-wired to speak-up! But if we make an effort we will definitely see the results! When people speak up and make a case for their basic rights then they are given those rights! But the rights will be taken away if we give them away, and the way to give them away is to remain quiet! This is a country where the fittest survive, and people will take what is yours if you do not claim it and/or protect it!
We will make our voices heard, and we will end retrogression! But we cannot do it without us all joining together!

I know IV is doing its best and there are other groups fighting for HR 5882.
But honestly, what are the chances for this bill to succeed this year (before election)?
100% or 75% or 50% or 25% or 0%
Ron Gotcher predicts that none of the individual bills may pass this year.
And also that EB3 I may not move forward even next year!
I am not sure how many EB3 (I) volunteers are there in IV (who are really focussed). Are they getting nothing? The prediction is that EB3 I may go back to Nov 2001 and stay there for a while (or may be for the rest of next year).
Is the efforts of EB3 (I) volunteers being exploited (indirectly, ofcourse)? What are they fighting for?
First of all, I can commiserate with you and understand how important any news about the expected PD movement is. However I am sure you will also agree if nothings changes, the agonizing wait will keep getting longer. Now what needs to change and what the success percentage is at least partially up to us.
By believing that no matter what, EB3 is destined to have a long wait you might be not taking advantage of the possibility that there is some chance (no ones know how much) that things might get better. So lets just put our combined optimistic efforts into this initiative because that is a prerequisite for any change..now or later.
All the best and hang in there pal!

1) Yes, the positive was that the attorney was very helpful in answering the Qs in detail with several follow up questions face-to-face.
2) The members we had never met before who boldly allowed me to video tape their introductions. And committed to being more 'Active'.
3) New member brought two items for the future garage sale. Now seeing that nobody else had acted upon that request, it will probably give him an impression that the next time something is asked of members, it is not to be taken seriously, right? sorry to go into the negative again.
I wouldn't call anyone coward, it is a very strong word. No one would like to be called that. But I definitely saw a lack of commitment or 'proactive' (I dont want to sound like your manager :)) attitude.

I think for Indian EB-3s, if your priority date is after March 2002, it is definitely worthwhile to do the conversion. Chinese EB-3s with priority dates after Sept. 2003 should definitely convert too.
Even considering the time to find a job, file a new labor and I-140, it still looks like that you will get your GC faster than waiting in a not-moving line. The recent history has shown that the visa bulletin can get stuck for a specfic cutoff date for half a year. Besides, EB3s have been and will always be of a lower priority just as someone said in other posts.

Also on another note Senator Lieberman wrote a piece in investors.com which is pro-skilled worker and pro-H1B.
http://www.investors.com/editorial/editorialcontent.asp?secid=1502&status=article&id=264986175666607
In it he says "When the Senate resumes debating comprehensive immigration reform this week, I will fight to exempt from the cap foreign nationals holding a U.S. graduate degree in any field; a non-U.S. graduate degree in science, technology, engineering or math; or medical-specialty certification based on U.S. training. Taken together, these reforms would deliver much-needed relief and vital human capital to our innovative industries." .
This is a good find. I'm happy that the senators are fighting to remove the cap for masters students. That would make lot of room for the non-ms students.

I think the country based quota has been eliminated for the "merit based" quota. Am I missing something.
The original bill had a 10% per country cap. Don't think that has been removed in the new bill.
